ESD Simulators | ESD Generators

To assess the resistance of electronic and electrical devices to electrostatic discharges (ESD), artificial ESD discharges are generated using specialised ESD generators, and their impact on the devices is analysed. Testing procedures and protective effectiveness are governed by legal standards such as IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605.

Burst Generators

Electronic and electrical systems must function without electromagnetic interference. Burst testing assesses tolerance to high-frequency voltage peaks and low-energy transients. Schlöder's equipment ensures compliance with IEC 61000-4-4, covering 125 kHz to 2 MHz—beyond standard requirements.

Surge Generators

Electronic devices must withstand surge voltages from lightning, short circuits, or switching overvoltages. These high-energy events, with kV/kA currents and microsecond rise times, can span several MHz. Surge testing, per IEC 61000-4-5, simulates these conditions to evaluate device resilience.

Magnetic field

To test the resistance of electronic and electrical devices to magnetic fields, artificial fields are generated using magnetic field generators, along with field coils, Helmholtz coils, or magnetic field coils. The impact on the devices is then assessed. Testing procedures and the level of shielding required to protect against such interference are governed by standards such as IEC 61000-4-8, MIL-STD-461, ISO 11452-8, DO-160 Sections 18/19, and automotive regulations.

Voltage Interruption Generator

heading underline img

Short-term voltage dips, interruptions, and fluctuations can occur without causing permanent damage to devices. IEC 61000-4-11 (AC) and IEC 61000-4-29 (DC) standards test the immunity of electrical and electronic equipment with up to 16 A input current to these voltage variations. The VIS 1700 generator simulates AC/DC interruptions, voltage dips, fluctuations with an automatic ramp function, and inrush current measurements.

Electricity meters are subject to various factors during operation, and specific tests are required to ensure measurement accuracy and reliability. According to the test requirements set by the ‘Network Technology / Network Operation in the VDE (FNN)’ forum, testing with a 0.1/2000 µs pulse is specified in section 3.7.1 of the FNN. The PG 01-2000 pulse generator is designed for insulation and surge voltage withstand testing using the 0.1/2000 µs pulse.
